I started this activity last year with my Spanish classes after I became obsessed with singing karaoke. I thought about how much fun I had singing and how difficult this experience is. Have you ever sang karaoke? It is not an easy task.
Other than a projector and you tube karaoke with lyrics videos, you will also need an amplifier and a microphone.

For my planning, I choose one song to present during a 44 minute lesson. My Spanish AP class reads Marianela by Benito Perez Galdos and I incorporate the song "Ciego Sordomuda" by Shakira as a class activity. You can relate any song to any literature piece, country, theme (such as environment), etc. I tend to select authentic current pop songs in Spanish so students can relate to the music. Last year my Spanish 3 classes sang "Que Viva España" after studying Spain for two months. The prelude to the karaoke activity was a TVE news broadcast of Spain's celebration after their national soccer team won the Euro Cup.
This is a great activity that incorporates culture and students authentically use the language. They spend the rest of the day singing in Spanish (Yes, they have said this to me).
I have a video clip from a karaoke activity done in class. It is not great quality but you will get the idea.
